PDALogic System Requirements

Before the PDALogic software can be installed to operate with your JobLogic application the following needs to be installed and configured along with the latest updates:

  1. A dedicated file server with Windows 2003 SBS Sever or Standard edition
  2. Thin client software, either Microsoft Terminal Services or ThinSoft Winconnect
  3. A broadband Internet connection with a known static IP Address
  4. Microsoft .NET Framework (Version 2.0)
  5. Firewall ports 7861 and 7862 open for TCP traffic and forwarded to the JobLogic server
  6. Internet Information Services and ASP.net configured to host a web service
  7. Remote access to the server with details of administrator user

  1. Windows 2003 Server (Standard or Small Business Edition)

    When servicing multiple users, JobLogic is best deployed onto a dedicated file server operating Microsoft Windows 2003 Sever software. There are two variants of this software that have different business benefits, either of which are suitable for use with JobLogic and PDALogic.

  2. Thin client software (Microsoft Terminal Services or ThinSoft Winconnect)

    The JobLogic software operates most effectively when deployed within a thin client environment, i.e. the users accesses JobLogic by logging onto a terminal session operating on the file server. There are 2 options available either Microsoft Terminal Services or ThinSoft Winconnect, both are suitable but have different business benefits.

    Both the JobLogic application and Database are to be installed on the file server and users connect to the server using a remote desktop connection. Users PCs must be capable of running a remote desktop connection and the file server must meet the following MINIMUM requirements:

    Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.8GHz
    2 GB Memory
    CD-ROM Drive
    Screen Resolution 1024 x 768

    IMPORTANT NOTE: The above specification is for 5 concurrently connected users. Please allow an extra 100 Mb of memory per additional user.

    * Windows 2003 Small Business Server does not support terminal services in application mode.

  3. Broadband Internet Connection with a Static IP Address

    An ADSL (or better) Broadband Internet connection is required, as part of your broadband package your Internet Service Provider MUST provide you with a Static IP Address (also known as a Fixed IP Address). If you are not sure whether your internet connection has a Static IP address, please speak to your Internet provider for advice.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You must inform JobLogic of your static IP address and the remote access details (RDP) at least 1 week before your agreed installation date.

  4. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

    .NET Framework Version 3.5 is to be installed on the designated JobLogic Server. .NET Framework can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft Website.

  5. Firewall ports 7861 and 7862 open for TCP traffic

    The engineer's PDA will communicate with the JobLogic system via this firewall port, if it is not available or not forwarded to the correct server then no information can be sent or received.

  6. Internet Information Services configured to host a web service and ASP.net

    Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.0 or above installed on the designated JobLogic Server and configured for hosting a web service. When installing IIS please ensure that ASP.net is enabled and the following should be used to configure the web service:

    1. New website name: pdaWeb (either Live or Training)
    2. Set the "Home Directory" path to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\pdaWeb_Live
    3. IP Address: (All Unassigned)
    4. Port 7861 or 7862 open for TCP access by the PDA devices
    5. Website Access Permissions: Read, Run and Write

  7. Remote access to the server with the administrator details

    In order to remotely install the various components required for PDALogic we will require remote access to the server and the access must the administrator user and not another user with administrative rights. The Windows operating system treats applications installed by users other than the administrator user differently and so we require this access in order to install things correctly.

PDALogic Device Hardware Requirements

PDALogic can only be successfully installed onto PDA device with the following requirements:

  1. Screen A touch sensitive screen with a 240 x 320 pixels display with at least 65,536 colours set in the portrait mode
  2. RAM 128 MB minimum
  3. Connectivity A GSM (mobile phone) connection with an active GPRS connection
  4. Windows Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC Edition or later
  5. ROM Update The latest ROM Build from the respective device supplier

NB It is not possible to test the pdaLogic software on every PDA available. Prior to any deployment please ensure that you have confirmed with TMS of the selected device's suitability and be prepared to provide one for testing purposes.
